This is an itinerary for anyone who likes nature but doesn’t enjoy long hikes and steep trails. It is suitable for families with children, too (we don’t recommend it for kids under 4 years).

The trail goes along Beli Iskar river, located in the north part of Rila mountain. This is one of the tributaries of the longest Bulgarian river – Iskar, which springs in Rila and flows for 368 km until its mouth in the Danube.

Hiking this trail is possible in all seasons but is especially beautiful during spring (when the river level is high and its waters bubbly) and autumn (when the changing colours of the forest are at their best). Since almost all of the trail goes through forests it isn’t hot there even in the height of summer.

The route of the trail forms a loop, following both shores of Beli Iskar river. Its total length is approximately 7.5 km and takes an average of 3 hours to complete. There are 8 major and several small bridges crossing the river at different points. There are many convenient spots for a short break and picnic lunch (provided by us).

At the point of highest elevation of the trail (1528 m above sea level) there is a panoramic spot for more lovely pictures of the area.

The total duration of the tour is around 7 hours depending on road conditions and the pace at which the hike goes. The difficulty level is low.
